Project Overview

Cambridge Spark is seeking an independent, high-calibre AI Transformation Delivery Consultant (Project Basis) to deliver strategic advisory and technical scoping services for our executive-level clients.

This is a project-based contract engagement to deliver projects as part of our executive education programmes. The successful consultant will act as an external specialist, bridging the gap between technical capability and business value by leading defined workstreams within our Leading with AI programme.

The project is remote / UK-based (with project-specific onsite delivery in London, Cambridge and client sites as required).

Key Deliverables & Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for delivering the following outcomes:

• Executive Advisory & Value Discovery: Deliver strategic consulting to client executives, identifying and documenting high-impact opportunities where AI can drive operational efficiency or new business models.
• Solution Scoping & Business Case Definition: Translate complex business challenges into clear technical requirements. Produce robust business cases, ROI estimations, and defined project scopes to secure stakeholder buy-in.
• AI Governance & Risk Frameworks: Provide independent expertise on AI governance, safety, and regulatory compliance, delivering actionable risk-mitigation frameworks for clients.
• Proof of Concept Development: Build and deploy functional demo AI tools/applications to bring specific use-cases to life and demonstrate practical feasibility.
• Workshop & Presentation Delivery: Design and facilitate high-impact, technical AI workshops and presentations for senior leadership teams.

Required Expertise & Capabilities

To successfully deliver this project, the independent consultant/services provider must demonstrate:

Essential Criteria

• Commercial AI Delivery: A proven track record of executing and delivering complex projects in AI, Data Science, or Machine Learning within commercial or industrial settings.
• Executive Stakeholder Engagement: Extensive experience consulting with senior stakeholders, with a proven ability to translate deep technical concepts into value-driven business language.
• Advanced Business Analysis: Expert capability in analysing complex business processes, identifying operational pain points, and quantifying the financial/strategic impact of AI interventions.
• Technical Credibility: A strong academic foundation (MSc/PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a highly numerate subject) or equivalent deep industry experience.

Desirable Criteria

• Consulting Background: Prior experience operating within a management or technology consulting framework.
• Sector Breadth: Experience delivering AI solutions across multiple industries (e.g., Finance, Healthcare, Retail, or the Public Sector).
• Project Delivery Methodologies: Mastery of Agile or structured project management methodologies to ensure seamless delivery of outcomes.

Contractual Nature of the Engagement

This engagement is for a specific, project-based outcome and is open to independent contractors, freelancers, or boutique consultancies operating via a Limited Company or appropriate vehicle.

• Autonomy: The consultant will have full control over how, when, and where they deliver the outcomes, subject to meeting client project milestones.
• Substitution: The right of substitution applies, provided the substitute possesses equivalent skills and qualifications to meet the project deliverables.
• Equipment: The consultant is expected to provide their own equipment and tools necessary to complete the assignment.
• Commercial Conflicts: The services provider must not provide identical or similar AI transformation consulting services to direct competitors of Cambridge Spark for the duration of this project.
